IFT, Timor Lorosa’e National University to promote student, staff exchanges

Timor Lorosa’e National University
中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

IFT and Timor Lorosa’e National University in East Timor have agreed to cooperate in promoting exchanges of students and staff. The partnership also intends to foster joint research projects by the 2 institutions of higher education.

Exchange students will be exempt from paying for their tuition at the host institution. Students and staff on exchange may be eligible for special scholarships, according to the agreement.

The Timor Lorosa’e National University, known as the Universidade Nacional de Timor Lorosa’e in Portuguese, is in the East Timorese capital, Díli. It was established in 2000 and is the only public-sector institution of higher education in East Timor.

East Timor, in Southeast Asia, is the youngest country where Portuguese is spoken. The former colony of Portugal gained independence in 2002 after almost 3 decades of rule by Indonesia.

The process of establishing IFT as an international centre for tourism education includes increasing cooperation between the Institute and Portuguese-speaking countries. This is in line with efforts by the Macao SAR Government to promote the city as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.
