IFT undergraduates go on Macao-Jiangsu exchange

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

A group of 8 IFT students took part in the 2019 Macao and Jiangsu University Students Cultural Exchange Programme. The exchange took them to the cities of Nanjing and Huai’an in the Mainland Chinese province of Jiangsu from 18 June to 24 June.

One purpose of the exchange was to give students the chance to learn about the culture and history of Mainland China, including the latest economic and social developments in Jiangsu. Another was to increase interaction between students in higher education in Macao, and students at Nanjing University and Huaiyin Normal University.

More than 80 visiting students attending 7 institutions of higher education, 6 in Macao and 1 in Hong Kong, took part in the programme.

The students visited the facilities at Nanjing University and at Huaiyin Normal University. They went on excursions to see landmarks in Jiangsu, including Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, the Qinhu National Wetland Park and the Purple Mountain Observatory.

They also visited the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. The museum honours the people massacred by the Japanese army in and around Nanjing when it captured the city, then the capital of China, in December 1937.

Another highlight of the programme was a day-long tour of Huai’an. The tour immersed small groups of the visitors, accompanied by their Huaiyin Normal University counterparts, in the culture of the city and the way of life there, and culminated in a gala dinner.
