IFTM Ranked Sixth Among Over 120 Greater China Institutions for Most Frequent Social Science Citations

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

In the latest publication with a focus on academic impact level, IFTM garnered the top spot for Macao in the list.

The “Evaluation of the International Impact of China’s Tourism Academic Research: A Statistical Study Based on SSCI Tourism Papers from 2001–2021” issued by the Research Center of Tourism Academic Assessment of China Tourism Academy, Tourism College of Beijing Union University, and the pressroom of the Tourism Tribune was recently published.

According to the “Affiliation list of authors (h index≥7) that published tourism academic papers in SSCI journals and its g index from 2001 to 2021”, a total of 122 institutions from Greater China were ranked. Among the three listed institutions in Macao, IFTM secured the highest position for the Special Administrative Region, at 6th place.

In addition, IFTM Professor Penny Wan Yim King was ranked 21st among 125 scholars in the “List of authors (h index≥7) that published tourism academic papers in SSCI journals and its g index from 2001 to 2021”.

To compile these lists and rankings, the study analysed 7,624 papers from 566 journals worldwide as well as 8,528 authors from Greater China. It relied on 53 keywords to search for tourism papers that were written by scholars from Chinese academic institutions and published in the SSCI database from 2001 to 2021. Three expert groups worked independently to screen the elicited papers.

In the aforementioned ranking table, only institutions with a high citation index (h index) larger than or equal to seven were eligible for the listing. An index at that level indicates a passing grade in citation frequency in the academic world. IFTM achieved an h index of 26. All these rankings and indicators signal that IFTM and its faculty members are gradually elevating both quantity and quality of research.

It is also noteworthy that an average growth rate of 30 percent was recorded in the number of scholarly papers submitted by mainland Chinese, reaching a total of 1,635 papers in 2021, which is also an indication of the fierce competition within the academic field, accentuating the achievements that IFTM has made.
