Student Union’s annual quiz draws Greater Bay Area contestants

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

The latest IFTM Student Union Annual Tourism and Hospitality Quiz has attracted competitors from other institutions of higher education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

It is the first time the annual event has drawn students from beyond Macao. The 12th edition of the quiz was held at IFTM on 23 and 24 November, and was supported by the Institute and the Macao SAR Government Higher Education Fund.

The competition helps tertiary and secondary school students gain a better understanding of tourism development, potentially preparing them for careers in the tourism industry.

Students at the Jinan University Shenzhen Tourism College, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and South China Agricultural University competed in the latest quiz. They were among 145 students or pupils in 38 teams – the most contestants ever – that competed either in the college contest or in the senior high school contest.

Some of the questions they were asked were about China and Macao, in view of the competition coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR.

The team representing Jinan University Shenzhen Tourism College won the college-level contest; a team from IFTM came second and a South China Agricultural University team came third. A team from Escola dos Moradores de Macau won the senior high school contest, a team from Pooi To Middle School came second and a team from Fong Chong School of Taipa came third.
