A group of Year 3 students enrolled on UTM’s Tourism Retail and Marketing Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme recently hosted a cultural- and fashion-product bazaar at Lai Chi Vun Shipyards in Coloane. The aim was to promote original goods from Macao businesses.
The whole event was supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and sponsored by integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd.
The cultural and fashion bazaar was part of the students’ coursework for the Tourism Retail and Marketing Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme. It aimed to provide undergraduates with hands-on experience of product management and brand management operations, specifically through planning and organising a promotional activity related to original Macao brands.
Lai Chi Vun Shipyards is a heritage site preserving knowledge of traditional boatbuilding crafts. It regularly hosts markets and performances, as well as workshops, related to cultural and creative industries.
The event featured 19 Macao brands and a wide range of product categories, including retro and casual fashion, aromatherapy oils, and jewellery.
The bazaar began with a fashion show featuring work from 11 Macao designers. There was also an impromptu performance featuring live painting and music by a violinist. In addition, an ensemble from UTM’s Music Society – an organisation under the Student Union – performed at the bazaar.
Overall, the initiative allowed students to apply theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom to a real-life business scenario.
The Tourism Retail and Marketing Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme is to be rebranded in the upcoming academic year as the Marketing and Brand Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme. The revised curriculum will focus on marketing and branding theory and practice, equipping students with essential skills for future careers in these fields.
