Undergraduates from UTM excelled in the recent “MCA Chinese Cooking Competition 2024”, with one of them securing first place in the student category

Owen Ng Hon Man, a student enrolled in UTM’s Culinary Arts Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme, clinched first place in the student category of the recent “MCA Chinese Cooking Competition 2024”. Fellow UTM undergraduate Crystal Chan Si Wai achieved third place.

The competition was organised by the Macau Culinary Association (MCA) and co-organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ). The contest took place on 24 April at the DSEDJ Coloane Training Centre.

A total of seven students from UTM’s Culinary Arts Management programme participated in the competition. The event was themed “Chinese Cooking with Western Ingredients and Fruit Coulis”, with separate categories for food and beverage professionals and students.

Participants in the competition were required to prepare a main dish in under 60 minutes using contemporary Chinese cooking techniques. Competitors had to prepare two portions, complete with appropriate garnish and sauce.

Although UTM’s Culinary Arts Management programme primarily focuses on Western culinary skills, the University’s students who participated in the MCA competition demonstrated outstanding Chinese culinary skills.

UTM encourages all its students – including those in the Culinary Arts Management programme – to participate in extracurricular competitions to learn new skills, expand their professional network within the industry, and utilise their talent.
