The partnership also intends to foster joint research projects by the 2 institutions of higher education.<\/p>\n<p>Exchange students will be exempt from paying for their tuition at the host institution. Students and staff on exchange may be eligible for special scholarships, according to the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The Timor Lorosa\u2019e National University, known as the Universidade Nacional de Timor Lorosa\u2019e in Portuguese, is in the East Timorese capital, D\u00edli. It was established in 2000 and is the only public-sector institution of higher education in East Timor.<\/p>\n<p>East Timor, in Southeast Asia, is the youngest country where Portuguese is spoken. The former colony of Portugal gained independence in 2002 after almost 3 decades of rule by Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The process of establishing IFT as an international centre for tourism education includes increasing cooperation between the Institute and Portuguese-speaking countries.
