First Phase of Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town Teaching Site

In support of the Outline of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, UTM is forging ahead with the development of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town. In August 2026, UTM commenced operations at the first phase of the University Town, marking the official launch of its Hengqin extension under the "One University, Two Campuses" model.

University Town Phase I

First Phase project is located at Dezhi Plaza in Hengqin, shared by UTM with two other Macao public higher education institutions. With a gross floor area of approximately 65,000 square metres, the premises house classrooms (with a capacity of around 1,300), seminar rooms, and administrative and staff offices. Residential and amenity facilities include Student Dormitories, Campus Canteen, and Sports Centre, while the Student Centre, Auditorium, and Teaching buildings support academic exchange and practical teaching.

At First Phase of the University Town, UTM focuses on postgraduate education, offering master's and doctoral programmes in areas such as innovative hospitality management, and digital marketing and analytics. The university will progressively broaden its academic scope, introduce more international collaborative programmes and dual-degree offerings, and leverage the policy advantages of the Cooperation Zone to drive industry-academia-research integration.

A Cross-Border Learning Experience

The First Phase of the University Town lies in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone and about 3 km from Hengqin Port, which operates 24/7 and is the main channel for students traveling between Zhuhai and Macao. After crossing, students could access quickly to Macao campuses and commercial areas. Students can move between Macao and Hengqin, gaining exposure to different regulatory environments and market models while building cross-border perspectives and hands-on experience. International collaboration resources from the Macao campus extend to Hengqin, enabling students to participate in overseas exchanges, dual-degree programmes, and international academic events.

Campus facilities

The Student Centre provides a quiet study and reading area, club meeting area, and lounge — with full Wi-Fi coverage, open all day to all students. The Teaching Buildings are equipped with standardised classrooms and full multimedia equipment, suited to lectures, seminars, and small-group practicals. Student apartments offer various layouts, each with an en-suite wet-dry separated bathroom and 24/7 constant-temperature hot water.

The campus has complete basic amenities, with canteens, chain supermarkets, convenience stores, and cafés, to ensure daily needs are covered in one place.

Future Development

The Macao SAR Government is developing the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town in three phases. Third Phase will be the campus for the Macao University of Tourism and Macao Polytechnic University, expected to be substantially completed by 2030, providing enhanced teaching, research, and living facilities for long-term development.

UTM will firmly support Macao's "1+4" strategy for appropriate economic diversification, serve the needs of the nation, cultivate high-calibre talent, bring in quality international education resources, and contribute to the development of an international hub for high-end talent.
