Wine Master Returns to UTM to Teach Students About Italian Sparkling Wine

On September 19, world-renowned Master of Wine Debra Meiburg MW visited the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) to share her expertise on sparkling wines from the Prosecco DOC region in Italy with nearly 60 students currently enrolled in the Wine Studies course.

Debra Meiburg MW is an award-winning author, journalist, TV personality, international speaker, and is widely considered the global authority on the Asian wine market. She is founding director MWM Wine School, by Debra Meiburg MW; Meiburg Wine Media, Asia’s leading wine marketing and events agency, and the Cathay Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition. She is also the wine consultant for Cathay Pacific Airlines and former Chair of Education for the Institute of Masters of Wine.

Following her visit to UTM in 2024, Debra Meiburg MW was once again invited by Lecturer Mr. Oscar Man Cheng Ho from the Faculty of Innovative Hospitality Management. During the class, she guided students through a tasting of various Prosecco DOC sparkling wines, helping them learn about the region’s centuries-old winemaking history, unique grape varieties, and production techniques. The students actively engaged in the session and successfully passed the online exam administered by the official Italian organization, the Prosecco DOC Academy. All participants were awarded the Prosecco DOC Expert certification, personally signed by Debra Meiburg MW.
