A fireside chat with guests from the Galaxy

The Faculty of Innovative Hospitality Management often organises field trips and visits to enrich students' learning experience and expand their horizons with insights from the industry. Likewise, the Faculty regularly brings the real world to the classroom. As part of the series of guest lectures for the MSc in International Events Management programme, we have invited Mr Joey Pather, Senior Vice President of MICE Operations and Mr Michael Chan, Executive Manager of MICE Services from the Galaxy International Convention Center to talk to students about event futures and legacies.

In the form of a fireside chat moderated by course instructor Dr Ubaldino Couto, Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Tourism Event Management programme, Mr Pather and Mr Chan shared with students their insights on the future of the event industry, what the opportunities and challenges would bring, and how we as individuals and the industry could play a part and a role, particularly in the rapid development of the events sector. Mr Chan, an outstanding alumnus from UTM's first cohort of BSc Tourism Event Management programme, also shared with students his career path and some tips on pursuing a successful career in the event industry, complemented by Mr Pather from his years of experience around the world.

Students had a very fruitful evening with the esteemed guests and learnt much from their sharing. The Faculty of Innovative Hospitality Management thank the speakers their generosity of their time and commitment in co-building and nurturing the future generations of event professionals, thereby elevating the education-industry collaboration between the Macao University of Tourism and Galaxy Entertainment Group.
