UTM students visit Macau Tower

Year 2 students of Bachelor of Science in Tourism Event Management programme visited the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre recently to enrich and consolidate semester-long learning of skills and knowledge related to events.

As part of the course Event Planning and Coordination led by Dr Ubaldino Couto, Assistant Professor from the Faculty of Innovative Hospitality Management at UTM, a field trip to Macau Tower was organised and students had a guided tour of all major venues within the Macau Tower, including the Grand Hall, 3D Movie Theatre and Auditorium, Banquet Hall, Exhibition Hall and Outdoor Plaza. The highlight of the fruitful day was an inspiring sharing by Mr. Jack Lio, Event Manager - Business Development & MICE Sales of Macau Tower, who is also a UTM alumni, about his career path in the events sector.

UTM maintains a very strong industry network and encourages industry-academia collaboration. Students of the Tourism Event Management programme undertake a six-month internship in their third year of studies and host two live events as part of the curricula requirements. Site visits are instrumental in developing a concrete understanding and application of knowledge, as well as expanding the students’ horizons in a real world setting in preparation for their future careers. The Tourism Event Management programme aims to groom tomorrow’s leaders who are resourceful and resilient for Macao’s burgeoning events industry. UTM is extremely grateful to Macau Tower and its exemplary staff, as well as many other corporations, government entities, associations and organisations, in hosting these visits and arranging aspirational talks to students.
