Undergraduate students enrolled in the Hotel Management programme at the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) recently visited the Galaxy International Convention Center (“GICC”), located at Galaxy Macau. This field trip aimed to enhance their understanding of the development of Macau's hospitality industry.
The visit, which included guided tours of GICC's convention and exhibition hall, banquet and meeting rooms, and the Galaxy Auditorium, was organized in the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year by instructor Jojo Wong. She emphasizes the importance of these excursions, which align with UTM's commitment to deepen students’ understanding of Macau’s unique hotel and socio-cultural context.
Officially opened in 2023, GICC represents a significant advancement for Macau's convention and exhibition industry. With a total MICE space of 40,000 square meters, GICC is a versatile venue that can host large events, accommodating up to 8,500 banquet guests or cocktail parties for as many as 16,000 guests. Additionally, the Galaxy Arena, with a seating capacity of 16,000 seats, is the largest indoor arena in Macau. With its cutting-edge sound equipment and innovative design, the Galaxy Arena complements the convention center by offering a remarkable venue for world concerts and mega sporting events.
During the visit, students were guided by MICE staff, who provided detailed explanations of the facilities and operations, enhancing the students' understanding of daily hotel and event management practices. The tour included interactive Q&A sessions and multimedia presentations, which were well-received by the students.
Students expressed enthusiasm for the experience, noting that it significantly enriched their knowledge of Macau's hotel landscape and latest developments. Many voiced a desire to engage in similar initiatives in the future, reflecting the positive impact of experiential learning.
