Dr Ubaldino Couto, Academic Coordinator for Tourism Event Management programmes of the Faculty of Innovative Hospitality Management, was recently invited as a keynote speaker at the 2025 CIMERT International Meeting Industry New Power Seminar, organised by CIMERT (Center for International Meetings Research and Training), with the support from ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association), CCPIT (Chengdu Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade – Chengdu Expo Bureau) and co-organised by Chengdu University.
The two-day intensive event is an immersive workshop held in Chengdu for university students and teachers to cultivate talents, instill interest in the industry and inspire creative thinking in events. Joining Dr Couto were other speakers from mainland China, Malaysia and South Korea, with participants from across China, including two UTM students from the BSc Tourism Event Management programme. Dr Couto delivered his keynote on ‘Eventful Cities: Festivalising destinations by leveraging events’ to a room filled with enthusiastic learners who exchanged ideas and had much thought-provoking discussions.
The invitation is not only a recognition of UTM’s scholarly work in events but also a testament of the commitment and dedication of our university’s effort in engaging industry-education collaborations, as well as working with entities beyond Macao and the region.
