A faculty member and 11 students from "Trends in Health and Luxury Hospitality" course recently visited Zhuhai Jinwan Elderly Care Community to study its pioneering integration of premium elderly care with holistic wellness services. This subject is one of the core courses in the curriculum of Master of Science in Luxury Hospitality and Health Service Management Programme. The visit aimed to deepen students' understanding of aging demographics and the convergence of healthcare and luxury hospitality.
Developed by Zhuhai Jinwan District Government and Sanzao Town Government, the 25,000-square-meter facility offers 800 elderly care beds, a rehabilitation hospital, day-care centers, and a smart elderly care system. It serves sub-health, caregiving, and medical populations with personalized health management, professional medical teams, and the "Happy Living Farm", a unique program enabling residents to engage in gardening and animal husbandry for physical and mental well-being.
Students were particularly impressed by the community's comprehensive design: cultural amenities (calligraphy, music, mahjong rooms), family-friendly spaces (hotel-style accommodations, children's play areas), and its emphasis on intergenerational interaction. During the tour, they posed questions on balancing medical professionalism with service warmth and the practical applications of smart elderly care technology, which staff addressed with real-world examples.
The visit provided students with firsthand insights into cutting-edge practices in the health and aging sector. As part of its commitment to industry-academia collaboration, Macao University of Tourism continues to equip students with global perspectives to drive innovation in the Greater Bay Area's health and wellness industry.
