Portuguese Folk Dance Association visited UTM and delivered workshop

Recently, representatives from the "Macao No Coração (Heart in Macao)" Portuguese Folk Dance Association visited the Macao University of Tourism and delivered a workshop themed "Getting Closer to Intangible Cultural Heritage-a workshop on Portuguese folk dance" for the students of the Master of Science in International Events Management programme. The association participated in numerous major festivals and events in both Macao and the Mainland, as well as around the world.

The workshop began with an overview of the origins, historical development, regional characteristics, music, costumes, and the development of Portuguese folk dance in Macao. The representatives from the association, dressed in traditional Portuguese folk dance costumes, showcased the characteristics and details of the costumes from the northern region of Portugal. They shared anecdotes ranging from travelling to Portugal to purchase these costumes to storing these garments in Macao's climate. The final part of the workshop was an actual demonstration of Portuguese folk dance in which students were then encouraged to participate by singing and dancing to cheerful Portuguese folk music, immersing themselves in the joy of intangible cultural heritage. This workshop compliments very well the course Events and the Society (MICE501) by showcasing the importance and relevance of cultural events to destinations.
