Year 1 Familiarisation Tours at The Venetian Macao Connect Freshmen with Real-world Hospitality Operations
Across the 2025/2026 academic year, UTM organised five familiarisation tours to The Venetian Macao for Year 1 students from the bachelor's programmes of Hotel Management, Tourism Event Management, and Culinary Arts Management. Guided by senior team members from Sands China, the visits gave students first‑hand exposure to daily operations and career pathways in one of the region's flagship integrated resorts.
Hotel Management track
- Front-of-house immersion: Students visited the Front Office, Concierge and Guest Services to understand service flows, guest journey management, and luggage handling.
- Guestroom operations: A guided tour of hotel rooms highlighted standards, and coordination with back‑of‑house teams.
- Heart of House: In the Wardrobe area, students learned how uniform logistics, inventory, and hygiene protocols support large‑scale operations.
Tourism Event Management track
- Venue walk‑throughs: Site visits to event spaces introduced students to layout planning, traffic flow, and technical setups.
- Industry overview: The team outlined the conventions and exhibitions (C&E) landscape, roles within the department, and collaboration with vendors and clients.
- Event delivery: Sessions covered timelines, risk and contingency planning, on‑site command, and tips for building an entry‑level portfolio.
Culinary Arts Management track
- Department briefing: Resort representatives shared kitchen hierarchies, procurement, food safety, and cost control essentials.
- Kitchen tour: Students observed production kitchens to see station organisation, and learn about service coordination.
- Q&A: An open forum connected students with professionals for practical advice on skills development and career progression.
The initiative supports freshmen in connecting classroom learning with authentic workplace practices from the outset of their studies, helping them discover areas of interest and motivation. It also strengthens university–industry collaboration aimed at cultivating future talent for Macao's hospitality, events, and culinary sectors. UTM thanks The Venetian Macao and Sands China for their support in making these learning experiences possible.
