UTM students successfully organised the interpretation event themed “Exploring the Taste of Macao: A bite of 1950s”

The Year 3 students of the Bachelor of Science in Cultural and Heritage Management of Macao University of Tourism (UTM) successfully organised a heritage interpretation event called “Exploring the Taste of Macao: A bite of 1950s” on 15 November 2024, which attracted a group of audience interested in cultural heritage. The event featured a rich variety of activities, including Exhibition of Macao Cuisine in the 1950s, Food Documentary Screening, Conversations with Heritage Successor and Interactive Activities, allowing participants to explore the hidden food heritage in Macao, especially the ones in the 1950s.

Three guests were invited to share their experiences in operating traditional food businesses, Mrs. Ana Manhão Sou, the chef of the Macanese restaurant “Belos Tempos”; Mr. Ivan Cheong, the third-generation heritage successor of the famous egg waffle shop “Chak In Kei”; and Mr. Andrew Ma, the Chairman of The Industry and Commerce Youth Association of Macao and the owner of “Lei Hin café”. During the sharing sessions, they provided diverse perspectives on food heritage preservation and innovation, offering the audience a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the value of food heritage.

After the Heritage Successor Conversations session, a series of fun interactive activities were set up for participants to enjoy an immersive experience of the food heritage in the 1950s. The event received positive feedback from the audience. This event showcased the possibilities of exploring the hidden heritage in Macao and is expected to inspire the public regarding the importance of preserving Macao’s diverse food culture.
