The Faculty of Creative Tourism and Intelligent Technologies (FCTIT) of Macao University of Tourism (UTM) held a seminar on the development of the MBA Programme on September 3, 2026. Chaired by Dr. Max Zhao, Dean of FCTIT, and attended by a number of programme coordinators and teaching team members, the seminar examined four areas – curriculum design, teaching resources, faculty development and student experience – as part of the University's continuing efforts to strengthen its MBA programme.

Attendees included Dr. Catherine Zhuo, Coordinator for Marketing and Brand Management Programme; Dr. Vicky Chen, Coordinator for Postgraduate Programmes; Dr. Lin Boyu, Deputy Coordinator for Postgraduate Programmes; Dr. Simon Lei, Coordinator for Technology-Oriented Programmes and Courses; as well as Dr. Allan Pu, Dr. Fenix Feng and Dr. Gong Jian.
During the seminar, the teaching team agreed on a structured progression – management fundamentals first, followed by applied skills – and coordinated the sequencing of content across courses to eliminate overlap and ensure a clear and coherent learning pathway for students.
To accommodate students' varied academic backgrounds, data analytics-related courses will adopt a tiered approach, consolidating programming fundamentals while introducing hands-on work with cutting-edge tools such as AI-powered visualisation platforms. The teaching team will also work with the University Library on the selection and rollout of the relevant teaching tools.
To better align the curriculum with industry needs, the seminar proposed incorporating regional field studies into course delivery, with selected courses to be co-taught and to bring industry guest speakers into the classroom. The systematic development of teaching cases will also be advanced, covering both the acquisition of high-quality external case libraries and the development of original cases, supported by a university-level mechanism for case review and inclusion.
On faculty and student experience, the Faculty will put in place a stable core teaching team and seek dedicated funding to organise training for teachers in MBA/ DBA pedagogy and case-based teaching. In addition to the University's existing feedback mechanism, a designated contact person will be appointed for each course to compile students' classroom feedback and concerns on a monthly basis, enabling timely adjustments to teaching arrangements. During the current academic year, the teaching team will also join with student representatives to organise themed activities and advance preparations for establishing student organisations dedicated to MBA and DBA students.
Dean Max Zhao emphasised that the development of the MBA programme is an ongoing endeavour. Drawing on the learning experience and feedback of its first cohort, the Faculty will continue to refine the curriculum design and teaching arrangements to ensure that the quality of the programme is steadily enhanced.
UTM's MBA programme aims to cultivate visionary business leaders who can drive change in organisations and across society at large amid unprecedented turbulence and change. Focusing on what business leadership demands in the digital era, the programme brings together technological transformation, sustainability and innovative thinking, equipping students to become a force for change.
