UTM Career Day provides platform for exchanges between UTM graduates and employers
3/12/2025 028/REL/RP/2025

UTM hosted the 2025 Career Day on 4 March, offering graduates a platform to explore job opportunities and industry trends while enabling employers in the region to connect with aspiring talent.

UTM recently hosted the 2025 Career Day at its Taipa Campus, connecting students with 65 organisations from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Among them were three from Guangdong Province and two from Hong Kong, collectively offering over 1,300 full-time and internship opportunities across various industries.

Held on 4 March, this annual initiative serves as a direct communication platform between students and employers. It not only equips students with the latest industry insights and employment trends to help them plan their future careers but also enables companies to identify and recruit aspiring industry talent.

One of the first-time participants at the 2025 Career Day was 369 Co-op Town, a Macao-based youth entrepreneurship and incubation centre that supports local start-ups and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

José Campos, an assistant administrative officer at 369 Co-op Town, highlighted the significance of their participation, as it was their first time joining a career day at a local tertiary institution. “We seek fresh talent to help us organise more events in the near future and support our network of over 100 company members,” he explained.

Recognising UTM’s strengths in education and training for tourism and related service industries, Mr. Campos expressed confidence in UTM graduates. “Given UTM’s expertise in these fields, we believe its graduates will be a great fit for us,” he added.

Employers seeking aspiring talent

A similar sentiment was shared by Sino Hotels, a Hong Kong-based hotel operator. Mona Wong, Director of Learning and Development at Sino Hotels, revealed that this was also the group's first time participating in a career event at a Macao university. She explained that they were keen to recruit aspiring young professionals to join their 1,200-strong workforce across their eight properties in Hong Kong.

Sino Hotels welcomes UTM graduates and students to join as full-time employees or management trainees, as there is the advantage of cultural and linguistic familiarity between UTM students and their primary clientele, mainland Chinese tourists, Ms. Wong noted.

She further emphasised the reputation of UTM graduates, citing the example of a UTM alumnus who would soon complete an 18-month executive training programme at Sino Hotels and transition into a full-time role. “Thanks to the abundance of hotels in Macao, UTM students gain extensive exposure to the industry and are well-versed in hotel operations,” she remarked.

The 2025 Career Day featured on-site interviews, allowing students to engage directly with recruiters. In addition, an Alumni Career Sharing Session was held, where UTM alumni shared practical advice to help students seamlessly transition from campus to the professional world.

Positioned for success in job market

Among the students exploring the Career Day booths was Christy Lam, a Year 4 Tourism Event Management student, who is particularly interested in opportunities within the convention and exhibition sector. “I enrolled in UTM’s Tourism Event Management programme because of my passion for the industry. Over the past four years, UTM has provided numerous hands-on experiences, reaffirming my commitment to this field,” she said.

Acknowledging the competitive job market, she believes UTM has prepared her well. “Experience is key in this industry, and UTM has provided me with ample training and internship opportunities to enhance my skills and knowledge,” she noted.

Similarly, Miguel Lou, a Year 4 Hotel Management student, expressed confidence in his job prospects, given the skills he has gained at UTM. “With the continuous development of tourism in Macao, job opportunities will only increase. It’s crucial for us to keep improving and gaining more experience,” he added.

According to the latest Employment Survey of 2023/2024 Graduates, UTM alumni have secured careers in various sectors, including tourism, hospitality, catering, trade, retail, public administration, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions), banking, finance, and insurance. The median monthly salary for local full-time postgraduate programme graduates was MOP17,000, while local full-time bachelor’s degree graduates earned a median monthly salary of MOP15,560, underscoring the potential and competitiveness of UTM graduates in the job market, the survey said.
