Institute for Tourism Studies announces the renewal of the “TedQual Certification” granted by the United Nations World Tourism Organization until December 2012.
In 2000, Institute for Tourism Studies became the first educational institution in the world to be granted the “TedQual Certification”. This certification confirmed the international standard and quality achieved by IFT in tourism education.
IFT initially applied for this certification. Upon the acceptance of application by UNWTO, the rigid evaluation process began. IFT researched and prepared for the information and documents as required by UNWTO. Six major divisions were assessed, including “Society and Industry”, “The Student”, “Instruction”, “The Faculty”, “Infrastructure” and “Management”. Among these six divisions, 183 aspects were reviewed.
Since IFT was granted this certification in 2000, UNWTO sends UNWTO-THEMIS Executive Director to IFT for annual observation. IFT appreciates these valuable opinions from international experts and makes relevant arrangements for improvements in terms of education, programme and management. In December 2008, UNWTO sent its experts from Spain to IFT again for a comprehensive evaluation. Later, a report was submitted to UNWTO for reference on the renewal and recently, the certifications granted to IFT’s Bachelor Degree Programmes were renewed for 4 years, to December 2012.
This certification confirms IFT’s standard in education and raises the morale of students and staff of IFT. IFT believes that this honour is to be shared among the supportive industry, devoted staff and academic members, as well as diligent students.
