On 25 March, the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) held a sharing session on the spirit of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Sessions. The event invited Mr. José Chui Sai Peng, Deputy Head of the Macao delegation to the NPC and Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao SAR; Mr. Vong Hin Fai, Macao Deputy to the NPC and Member of the Committee for the Basic Law Committee of the Macao SAR under the Standing Committee of the NPC; and Ms. Fanny Vong Chuk Kwan, CPPCC Member and Rector of UTM as keynote speakers. The three guests engaged in in-depth exchanges on key topics such as the national 15th Five-Year Plan and youth talent development, while encouraging faculty members and students to deeply grasp the spirit of the Two Sessions and actively integrate into national development. The sharing session attracted around 400 students, faculty and staff members who participated both online and offline, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

The main venue was located at the Grand Hall of the Forward Building in the Taipa Campus. Distinguished guests in attendance included Mr. Chan Chak Mo, Chair of the UTM Council; Ms. Leung Veng Hang, Advisor to the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture; Ms. Ho Silvestre In Mui, Director of the Financial Services Bureau; Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Ms. Diamantina Luíza do Rosário Sá Coimbra, Vice Rector of UTM; Mr. Carlos Roberto Xavier, Head of the Department of Tertiary Education at the Education and Youth Development Bureau; Mr. Fong Tin Wan, Head of Department of Organization and Management of Administrative Finances of the Cultural Affairs Bureau; Mr. Raimundo Chang San Chi, member of the Macao University of Tourism Development Foundation; among others.

In his sharing, Mr. José Chui Sai Peng noted that from the various reports reviewed during this year’s “Two Sessions” and the blueprint of the national 15th Five-Year Plan, it is evident that promoting deep integration of technological innovation with industries and developing new quality productive work forces have become core drivers of the country's high-quality development. He highlighted Macao’s unprecedented opportunities in actively advancing the “Four Major Projects” and vividly referenced the cultural context of “Westward Spread of Eastern Learning.” He emphasised that Macao should fully leverage its unique advantages as a crossroads of Chinese and Western cultures, accurately position itself, and strive to create a distinctive international “cultural technology” brand. He also encouraged UTM faculty and students to seize the opportunities of the era, take on active roles, and contribute their wisdom and strength to Macao’s appropriate economic diversification.

Mr. Vong Hin Fai emphasised that Macao should actively align with the national 15th Five-Year Plan, solidly promote appropriate economic diversification, advance the construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and leverage its unique advantage of “relying on the motherland and connecting with the world” to support the country’s high-level opening up. Regarding youth development, Mr. Vong cited the expectations of central government leaders, encouraging young people to foster a deep sense of patriotism, gain a thorough understanding of the country’s development strategies, actively participate in the construction of the Greater Bay Area and the Cooperation Zone, and accumulate experience through practice. He also encouraged students to become talents with patriotic sentiments, a love for Macao, and an international perspective, ensuring that the “one country, two systems” cause is carried forward by capable successors and achieves long-term success.

Rector Fanny Vong stated that the country’s remarkable achievements in technological innovation are inseparable from forward-looking top-level design, sustained resource investment, and a well-developed talent cultivation system. UTM will also actively respond to the national call by strengthening the cultivation of technological literacy in its curriculum, encouraging students to break down disciplinary boundaries and combine cultural heritage with innovative thinking. She encouraged young people to proactively understand the country’s development directions, and seize the opportunities brought by the construction of the Greater Bay Area and the Cooperation Zone. She also urged them to continuously equip themselves, enhance their competitiveness, and integrate their personal growth into the country’s overall development, and contribute to Macao’s appropriate economic diversification.

Participating students expressed that the sharing session deepened their understanding of the country’s latest development policies and provided a clearer understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Macao. In the future, they will continue to study, comprehend, and implement the spirit of the “Two Sessions,” actively equip themselves, align with the development pace of the nation and Macao, and strive to contribute to the nation.
