The Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) Open Day was held on 22 February, 2013 from 1100 – 1700. The objective of this event was to allow high school graduating students, parents and the general public to find out more about IFT teaching philosophy, facilities, study environment and programmes through activities such as experience sharing, classes showcase and campus tour.
Two sessions of “Programme Briefing and Meeting with IFT Alumni” were arranged. Dr. Fanny Vong, President of IFT and Mr. Antonio Chu, Head of Technical and Academic Support Division of IFT introduced the new development tendency of IFT and admissions information, while several IFT alumni who are now serving in the tourism and service industry came back to their alma mater to share their study experiences at IFT and career prospects. The response was phenomenal with about 300 participants joining the event.
What made IFT Open Day unique was that the whole event, from planning to actual operations, was coordinated by IFT Tourism Event Management year 2 students, together with staff and students in other majors. They took part in various roles to welcome their guests and show them around the campus, dedicated to give visitors an unforgettable day! IFT emphasises both theory and practice. The event not only gave students a great opportunity to learn team work and put what they have learnt into practice, but also gave them the opportunity to share their experience at IFT with high school leavers-to-be, parents and the general public.
At the event, IFT students, professors and alumni also talked about the importance of the tourism and service industry to Macao. Besides, they introduced the Institute’s programmes, teaching facilities, and international awards and recognitions. What left most visitors with the deepest impression was the assorted “work stations” set up at the training units and classrooms, where visitors could take part in the basic operations of the hospitality and service industry and experience the fun of learning!
Tourism industry spearheads the economy in Macao. Being a public higher institution providing tourism and services related management programmes, IFT is also the first United Nation World Tourism Organization UNWTO TedQual certified institution in tourism education by UNWTO Themis Foundation. In addition to introducing visitors Macao’s tourism and service industry, the campus and programmes, IFT’s Open Day acquainted them with the fact that this tourism education institute in Macao, founded locally, has been recognised internationally. IFT may or may not be their choice but they can always be proud of their city for reaching world-class education standards.
IFT welcomes you all to join us. Let’s fly high with the tourism industry!
