Mr. Sheldon G. Adelson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Las Vegas Sands Corp. shares insights on entrepreneurship, leadership and success in tourism industry with IFT students

Mr. Sheldon G. Adelson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp. was invited to the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) to share his insights on entrepreneurship and leadership, as well as on achieving success in the tourism and hospitality industry, with IFT students on 4 February. More than 250 IFT students, faculty members and staff attended.
President of IFT, Dr. Fanny Vong, said it was a great honour to have Mr. Adelson share his success story, profound knowledge and experiences in life and work with IFT students. Mr. Adelson’s presence at IFT signifies the important role the Institute plays in nurturing future tourism and hospitality leaders. IFT will continue to work closely with the industry and community to contribute to Macao’s tourism development.
During the talk, Mr. Adelson recounted how he grew his company into one of the leading global developers of destination properties, having built integrated resorts in Las Vegas, Macao and Singapore. He discussed the role integrated resorts have played in shaping the current tourism landscape and what he perceived to be the future of the tourism industry. For young students aspiring to be a part of all this exciting development, he shared a few tips on how to achieve success in one's career. IFT students actively interacted with the speaker in a Q&A session. Dr. Vong closed the session by presenting a souvenir to Mr. Adelson.
Through this event, IFT students learned a few lessons from the legendary life of Mr. Adelson: do not be afraid of taking reasonable business risks, stay abreast of market trends, and be forward-looking. IFT has been striving to provide an internationally diverse learning environment to students by inviting renowned scholars, experts and industry professionals from around the world to share their knowledge and experiences. In addition, students can broaden their horizons by participating in exchange programmes, global internships, summer international exchange programmes and more, in order to better prepare themselves to enter the tourism industry in the future.
