On 28 February, The Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) Open Day took place and welcomed numerous high school graduating students, parents and the public to IFT Main Campus to know more about the Institute’s teaching philosophy, facilities and environment through a series of interactive activities including experience sharing, classes showcase and campus tour.
Two sessions of “Programme Briefing and Meeting with IFT Alumni” were arranged. Dr. Fanny Vong, President of IFT and Mr. Antonio Chu, Head of Technical and Academic Support Division of IFT introduced the Institute’s new development and admissions information, while several IFT alumni who are now serving in the tourism and service industry returned to the alma mater to share their study experiences and career prospects with prospective students.
This year IFT marks its 20th anniversary, thus several celebratory activities were held for visitors to engage in a very lively and exciting day, including “Treasure Hunting” where visitors completed activities at the campus and were entitled to receive the Institute’s souvenirs and a lucky draw to win the Macanese buffet and hotel room vouchers of IFT’s Michelin recommended and Tripadvisor awarded Educational Restaurant and Pousada de Mong-Há, the two training units of the Institute. Besides, to recognise the contribution of scholarship providers to the nurturing of tourism industry professionals, IFT launched a Scholarship Provider Appreciation Wall, and the scholarship donors and receiving students were invited to attend the opening ceremony.
What made IFT Open Day unique was that the event, from planning to actual operations, was coordinated by IFT Tourism Event Management year 2 students, together with other students and staff. They took part in various roles to act as emcee, welcome visitors and show them around the campus, dedicated to give guests an unforgettable day! IFT emphasises both theory and practice. The event not only enabled students to learn team work and put they have learnt in classes into practice, but also shared their study experiences with the prospective students in attendance.
Tourism industry spearheads the economy in Macao. Being a public higher institution providing tourism and hospitality management programmes, IFT is also the first United Nation World Tourism Organization UNWTO TedQual certified institution in tourism education by UNWTO Themis Foundation. IFT welcomes you all to join us. The application period for the daytime bachelor degree programmes runs until 3 March inlcusive. Let’s fly high with the tourism industry!
