Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) co-organised with Kendall College, Chicago, United States, to deliver a two-week summer programme entitled ‘Eco-awareness and Tourism Sustainability’. Kendall College is a member of the Laureate International University network of higher education institutions. It is one of the premier and prestigious institutions in the Illinois state delivering quality education in culinary arts, tourism and hospitality. Headquartered close to Chicago downtown, it has been in operation for 80 years where students benefited from experienced faculty staff members and strong engagement with the industry.
Thirteen students from IFT and other Higher Education Institutions from Macau and Hong, along with accompanying faculty member from IFT, Ubaldino Couto, benefited from a wide variety of speakers who are leaders of sustainability efforts in Chicago. The delegation also visited numerous sites which are considered sustainable in terms of their operation and facility. IFT faculty, Mr. Couto delivered two lectures on green tourism efforts in Macau and sustainable festivals and events. The summer exchange programme is in line with IFT’s sustainability efforts and further manifests IFT’s commitment to incorporating UNWTO’s Global Code of Ethics in all programmes.
