Passionate about event planning, Rex Kok Chi Weng graduated from the Macao University of Tourism (UTM), enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Tourism Event Management. During his academic journey, he not only laid a solid theoretical foundation but also gained abundant hands-on experience through live events on and off campus – experiences that ignited his confidence and motivation to take on leadership roles in the industry.
With an outgoing personality, Rex immersed himself fully in campus life. As the Vice-President of the UTM Business Club, he led his team in organising various events, including the annual Lunar New Year market, the Industry Sharing Session and the UTM Event Contest.
Despite working under immense pressure, Rex learned to remain composed amid uncertainty and how to inspire his peers. “True leadership,” he reflected, “is not about issuing commands, but about bringing out the team's potential and confidence in critical moments.” He firmly believes that only by balancing collaboration and execution can every event be turned into moments that are truly unforgettable.
Rex shared, “I came to deeply appreciate the power of teamwork—whether negotiating with vendors or communicating with the university, listening and finding common ground are the keys to pushing things forward smoothly. These experiences have quietly shaped my approach to work and leadership today.”
Though still a student at the time, Rex made the most of every opportunity to interact with industry leaders, drawing professional insights that helped him gradually shape a career roadmap that aligned with his aspirations.
Looking back on a major public event he helped organise, Rex candidly admitted that it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Juggling academic deadlines with hands-on projects tested his time management, but it was these challenges that reinforced his resilience and adaptability.
“I worked closely with my classmates, dividing responsibilities, from logistics and guest invitations to marketing, we gave our all at every stage,” Rex recalled.
“That experience taught me the true value of collaboration and flexibility, which remain essential skills in my professional life.”
After graduation, Rex is on course to join a local leisure resort , taking on responsibilities in event planning and management. One of his core duties will be to ensure seamless behind-the-scenes operations and respond swiftly to unplanned scenarios. “I’ll also work closely with teams from marketing, hospitality, and outsourced partners,” he added. “Together, we’ll strive to deliver events that not only impress, but truly resonate.”
