IFT student Joanne Yu has seen an academic paper she submitted to the 6th International Student Conference in Tourism Research (ISCONTOUR 2018) awarded second place in the “Best ICT Paper” category.

The conference took place at IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, in Austria, between 14 and 15 May.

Her paper, “Perceptual Differences toward Humanlike Robots and Humans in Service: Individualist versus Collectivist Cultures”, was also published in the conference proceedings.

Joanne is in Year 4 of a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Event Management. She came from Chinese Taiwan to study at IFT.

Joanne had already received an award for best presentation at the 7th International Conference on Industrial Technology and Management (ICITM 2018) for the paper “Humanlike Robot and Human Staff in Service: Age and Gender Differences in Perceiving Smiling Behaviours”. That conference took place at Oxford University in the United Kingdom from 7 to 9 March.

ISCONTOUR is an annual international conference for bachelor and master degree programme students, where they can publicly present the results of their academic research. Each accepted paper undergoes a thorough double-blind review process before being selected.
