‘Discovery Day’ offers prospective students a glimpse of life at IFTM

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese
The Institute recently held an event called ‘Discovery Day’. It aimed at giving prospective students, their families, and members of the public a first-hand view of the top-tier facilities and high-quality curriculum IFTM has to offer

The Discovery Day was held at the East Asia Hall Building on the Taipa Campus on 28 October, from 3:00pm to 5:30pm, attracting more than 110 people. It featured seminars on hospitality, cultural tourism, and digital marketing, as well as an alumni sharing session, campus tours, information booths about the Institute’s academic programmes, and various workshops, providing prospective students with an opportunity to learn more about the Institute.

As part of the event, 2 IFTM alumni shared insights and advice based on their experience as students at the Institute. They also highlighted the most useful skills they had acquired during their time at IFTM.

Ms. Wini Cheong Sam I, the president of the general assembly of the IFTM Alumni Association, was one of the guest alumni. She is also founder of W Avenue Wedding Planning Co Ltd, a wedding planning business.

Ms. Cheong states she aimed to explain to would-be students how the hands-on experience they can gain at the Institute will benefit their future careers or endeavours.

“IFTM is a great institution,” she says. Students have access to a plethora of activities, internships, and workshops: the knowledge they acquire at the Institute can prove to be highly valuable as they venture into the professional world, Ms. Cheong adds.

IFTM is a comprehensive higher education institution offering bachelor’s degree programmes as well as postgraduate studies, including master’s and doctoral degrees. It welcomes about 600 students each academic year.

Ms. Liana Lao, the other IFTM guest alumna, established her own business in the field of new media, called Quotation Mark Culture and Media Co Ltd. It produces promotional videos for restaurants and other brands, tailormade for social media platforms such as TikTok or Xiaohongshu. During her talk, she emphasised the entrepreneurship skills she developed during her time at the Institute, including learning how to establish a company or develop a product, and then market it.

“Some of the management skills [I acquired] were a great help for my current business,” she says.

Students attending the Discovery Day also had the opportunity to indulge in an afternoon tea buffet featuring Macanese delicacies, providing a taste of the unique local cuisine. A tour of various IFTM facilities was also conducted, with prospective students visiting academic facilities, the Institute’s student hostel and the newly-renovated library on the Taipa Campus.

The admissions process for the Institute’s bachelor’s degree programmes for academic year 2024/2025 is open until 30 June 2024. The admissions phase for the spring intake for IFTM’s master’s degree programmes runs until 17 November 2023.
