中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

Several Chinese calligraphy works by local artist Ms. Ho Lai Sim are now on display at the Team Building, on IFT’s Mong-Há Campus. The exhibition also features works by Ms. Ho’s students, and runs until 31 January.

The IFT Tourism and Hotel School has been offering, since 2017, short-term, elementary-level calligraphy courses led by Ms. Ho. The initiative is part of the Institute’s efforts to promote the development of Macao’s cultural and creative industries.

The Tourism and Hotel School runs study programmes of varying duration and level of specialisation for creative disciplines. The fields covered range from fine art painting to computer animation and the production of leather accessories. Some courses lead to certificates or diplomas.

The exhibition at IFT features 30 artworks. These cover different styles of Chinese calligraphy, including regular script, clerical script, running script and cursive script.

Ms. Ho was born in Macao and has been since childhood an enthusiast of Chinese calligraphy. In recent years, she has devoted herself to the study of the traditional form. She says that, in today’s fast-paced world, Chinese calligraphy enables her to find peace and ease of mind.

Ms. Ho heads the Macau Association of Chinese Calligraphy and Arts. She is also a member, respectively, of the Macau Yu Ün Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association and of the Hou Kong Seal Association.

The IFT courses led by Ms. Ho enable students to learn how to use a Chinese calligraphy brush and to understand the basic concepts of this art form. Participants also learn about the origins and development of Chinese calligraphy, enriching their knowledge of Chinese culture and arts.
