IFTM has growing number of students from outside Macao

IFTM’s reputation as a leading provider of higher education in the field of tourism and hospitality, is attracting a growing number of students from outside Macao for studies at the Institute. A total of 26 percent of those enrolled on bachelor degree programmes at IFTM in academic year 2019/20, came from outside Macao, an increase of 5 percentage points over the previous year.

Such outside students are also drawn from an increasingly diverse range of countries and places. There is currently among the outside undergraduate students at the Institute, a total of 36 countries and regions represented, 5 more than a year ago.

Mainland China is the biggest-single contributor of non-local IFTM students. But IFTM is providing an education to students from other parts of Asia – including Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Pakistan. There are also students from Europe and from Africa.

IFTM welcomes people from around the world, so promoting cross-cultural understanding and diversity of insight. The Institute has a team of scholars drawn from across the world, and benefits from a global network of partners.

The Institute also offers an array of opportunities for students to experience life and work outside Macao. Examples are semester-long exchanges, internships abroad and theme-based educational experiences.

According to the “QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020”, IFTM was 14th worldwide, 2nd in Asia and 1st in Macao, among higher education institutions in hospitality and leisure management. The latest ranking was the highest position achieved by the Institute since the ratings service began covering the hospitality and leisure management field in 2017.
