IFTM supports training competitors for the “46th WorldSkills” Macao Selection Competition held by the Labour Affairs Bureau, Macao S.A.R.

The Labour Affairs Bureau held the award ceremony of the “46th WorldSkills” Macao Selection Competition on 9 Oct 2022. As a training unit, IFTM has supported the Bureau in training potential competitors for several years. IFTM used to train competitors for four categories in the past (Western cooking, Bakery, Pastry, and Restaurant Service) and just added one new category last year, which is Hotel Reception.

Our Culinary Arts Management, Hotel Management and Tourism Event Management students participated and won awards at the “46th WorldSkills” Macao Selection Competition.

They have won different awards in five selections:

Western cooking: William Wang, a fresh graduate from Culinary Arts Management programme in IFTM, is the winner of the Western cooking selection. Rubie Lao, a fresh graduate from Culinary Arts Management programme in IFTM, is the 1st runner up of the selection. Daniel Pang, a year 3 Culinary Arts Management student, got the 2nd runner up in the selection. (Western Cooking Trainer: Marieta Wong, Lecturer, School of Hotel Management, IFTM)

Bakery Selection: Ray Lei, a fresh graduate from Culinary Arts Management programme in IFTM, is the winner of the Bakery selection. Camila Widjaja, a year3 Culinary Arts Management student, got the 1st runner up in the selection. (Bakery Trainer: David Charles Wiley Jr, Lecturer, School of Hotel Management, IFTM)

Pastry Selection: Momoko Leong, a fresh graduate from Culinary Arts Management programme in IFTM, is the winner of the Pastry Selection. Chloe Lau, a year 4 Culinary Arts Management student got the 1st runner up in the selection. (Pastry Trainer: Jeffrey Lao, Lecturer, School of Continuing Education, IFTM)

Restaurant Service Selection: Sofia Lam Huang, a year 4 student from Hotel Management programme in IFTM, is the winner of the Restaurant Service Selection. Kelly Ann Romero Adiwang, a  fresh graduate from Hotel Management programme, got the 1st runner up in the selection. Karen Kou, a  fresh graduate from Tourism Event Management programme, got the 2nd runner up in the selection. Hotel Reception Selection: Sam Wong, a fresh graduate from Hotel Management programme in IFTM, is the winner of the Hotel Reception Selection. Bittar Wei, a year 3 Hotel Management programme student, got the 1st runner up in the selection. James, Kolayuth Hanchangsit, a year 4 student from Hotel Management programme, got the 2nd runner up in the selection. Bittar Wei has mentioned that the academic support from the trainer Kurma and her personal long-term efforts are contributed to the award. In addition, she has made some progress in this competition through learning from other competitors and professionals.

IFTM will continue to support and train our potential competitors in those five categories mentioned above.

The WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 was cancelled due to the covid-19 epidemic. Nevertheless, our trainers tried their best to enhance their ability and skills and hope they can learn and equip themselves from the training for further study and careers.

IFTM congratulates all the awarded competitors and encourages them to apply what they have learned and continuously improve their skills. IFTM also always supports the Bureau and is looking forward to the next session of “WorldSkills Lyon 2024”.
