To promote a deeper understanding of the policy guidelines for the construction of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and to actively participate in promoting economic diversification, the Macao University of Tourism (UTM), with the support of the Livelihood Affairs Bureau and the Economic Development Bureau of Hengqin, organised a field trip to Hengqin in March 2024 for the students. The field trip was attended by a group of 42 students who were in their fourth year of the Tourism Event Management Programme. Through the day trip, UTM aimed to expand students’ horizons with insights into the latest economic and MICE industry development in the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.

During the trip, the students had the opportunity to explore various places including the Macao-Hengqin Youth Entrepreneurship Valley, Hengqin New Area Exhibition Hall, as well as the Qianyuan Hotel and the recently completed Artzen Habitat Hengqin Zhuhai. The trip was followed by a visit to the Enterprise and Talent Service Center of the Economic Development Bureau, where they were warmly received by Mr. Vic Lam, who serves as the Head of Division of Culture, Tourism, MICE, Trade and Commerce of Economic Development Bureau of Hengqin. Ms. Janice Keong, founder of Wellknown Exhibition & Convention Consultancy Co., Ltd and a member of the Macau Cultural Promotion Association also attended the sharing session to share her valuable  experience in event and exhibition work in Hengqin and Macao.

The sharing session provided valuable insights to the UTM students. They gained a deeper understanding of the development and cooperation within the event industry in Hengqin and Macao. They also learned about the opportunities and challenges brought about by the closed customs control in  Hengqin, and the opportunities for young people in entrepreneurship, employment, internships, and voluntary work in Hengqin. The field trip has further deepened students’ understanding of the measures and opportunities in the overall plan  aimed at promoting the appropriate diversification of Macao’s economy.
