Two groups of IFTM students visited the “ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE: SUMMER LOVE” Live Mural Painting and Exhibition on 17 and 18 April 2023 separately. IFTM Lecturer, Mr. Kelvin Leong Ka Hou, hosted the event. It was for undergraduates from year 1 to year 4, as part of the course “Visitor Management”.

Galaxy Arts is a non-profit cultural space managed by the Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation. Their exhibitions aim at local residents and visitors, with a focus on nurturing young people and giving them more opportunities to broaden their artistic and cultural horizons.

Regarding the visit, GalaxyArt introduced the artists and their artworks that are currently displayed. The exhibition “ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE: SUMMER LOVE” chronicles the artists from Hong Kong and Macau, including Bao Ho (Hong Kong), Kristopher Ho (Hong Kong), MCZ (Macao), PIBG (Macao), and Samantha Cheung (Hong Kong). During the visit, Mr. PIBG introduced motifs in his artwork. His works represent his determination to boldly pursue what he loves.

The docents were followed by seminars moderated by Ms. Florence Lam, the Gallery Manager at GalaxyArt. The seminar was about three main aspects of visitor management: safety, crowd control, and interpretation. As part of the seminar, Ms. Florence Lam mentioned that GalaxyArt emphasises raising awareness of arts and culture in societ and provides educational workshops and docents for the students in Macao.

Students taking part in the activity said it had helped advance their knowledge of mural art and practical experience in visitor management. In addition, the field trip opened their minds to new avenues for technology applications in cultural spaces, the students added.

According to IFTM lecturer Mr. Kelvin Leong, he appreciates the exhibition and thinks it is a good way to improve IFTM students’ knowledge of visitor management, both theoretically and practically.
