IFT and Cornell University School of Hotel Administration co-organised Executive Development Programme on “Essential Skills for Leadership”

In order to provide diversified training opportunities for industry professionals and further enhance management quality of the local service industry, Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) and Cornell University School of Hotel Administration co-orgainsed an Executive Development Programme on Essential Skills for Leadership on 29 & 30 March. The course allows participants to enhance their understanding of their own individualised leadership styles and strengthen their abilities to lead others in hospitality organisations. Participants also learn how to overcome blockages that are impeding their ability of effectively lead and manage others. The programme attracted 35 registrations from professionals of local hotels and mega resorts. The programme and certificate presentation ceremony was held at Grand Hyatt Macau, with support by Melco Crown Entertainment.

IFT has the honour of inviting Mr. Robert B. Perry, Faculty Member of Executive Education, School of Hotel Administration, Cornell Universtity and President of Robert B. Perry Associates, Inc.. Formerly a Director of Management Development for Trans World Airlines, he was subsequently named Director of Training for Hilton Hotels International. Mr. Perry has lectured on management topics at seminars all over the world. His teaching experience includes the American Management Association, the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, and the Institut de Management Hotelier Internationale (IMHI)- in Cergy-Pontoise, France.

The focus of the programme is to help participants understand that being a leader of others is a prerequisite for their success. Programme topics include:


-   Tapping into personalised leadership style, including emotional intelligence.
-   Motivating both outstanding and challenging employees to higher levels of  performance.

-   Turning work groups into inspired teams.
-   Leveraging the best parts of conflict.
-   Teaching others to learn from change.

As the tourism industry is growing swiftly in Macao, so will the demand for knowledgeable professionals. This course offered key insights into the unique leadership styles for management team as the appropriate management style is one of the key factors for organsations’ success and healthy growth.
IFT is always striving to enhance its research and teaching so as to contribute to the industry and the society. By organising seminars and workshops, IFT constantly shares with the industry the most updated information and research findings about the future development of Macao’s tourism industry and ways to enhance it.
