11/12/2024 113/REL/RP/2024

The Macao University of Tourism, with the support of MGM, launched this year’s “Non-local Professional Internship Programme.” In the third week of November, two middle management personnel from the Food and Beverage Department of Sumlodol Hengqin Camping Town participated in a 5-day programme at MGM.

Building on the success of previous two runs at different integrated resorts, this year’s programme aimed to deepen mainland practitioners’ understanding of Macao’s star-rated hotel catering service standards. The two participants had previously completed the Restaurant Server Train-the-Trainer course under the “One Exam, Multiple Certificates” scheme, an initiative launched after the [Collaboration Agreement under the regime of “Macao Occupational Skills Recognition System (MORS) ”- One Examination Multiple Certificates for the evaluation collaboration of professionally qualified personnel under Guangdong and Macao] UTM signed with the Guangdong Occupational Skill Service and Instruction Center of the Human Resources and Social Security Department of Guangdong Province and the Labor Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR. This internship programme served as an extension of the Train-the-Trainer course, further enhancing their grasp of international service quality.

The programme covered various aspects of food and beverage management, including operational processes, team management, interdepartmental communication, and staff training. The participants shadowed MGM’s F&B department supervisors, experiencing the operations of different positions and participating in team briefings.

Jason Feng, F&B Manager of Hengqin Sumlodol Camping Town, said: “During the internship, I was fortunate to engage in multiple skill areas, including beverage preparation, F&B management system operation, menu creation, inventory management, and reviewing various restaurant reports. Through on-site learning and hands-on experiences, I gained a deeper understanding of these operations. Particularly in F&B management, I observed how the team catered to different customers’ needs with proper adjustments, which made me realize the importance of a customer-first approach more profoundly.”

Ken Lin, F&B Supervisor of Hengqin Sumlodol Camping Town, stated: “This internship programme allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of high-star hotel service standards, which greatly helps me in determining what should be included in our internal training in the future.”

Since its launch in 2021, with the support from the local integrated resorts, the “Non-Local Professional Internship Programme in Macao” has provided mainland training partners with opportunities to experience Macao’s high-level tourism service industry in real work scenarios. This programme highlights the close collaboration between Macao and the hospitality industry, both locally and regionally, promoting better understanding and shared development outcomes. The Macao University of Tourism will continue to leverage Macao’s advantages in tourism education, deepen cooperation in the Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and promote the integrated development of regional culture and tourism.
