Pousada de Mong-Ha, a graceful hotel of history, is one of IFT’s training units. It has been adopting a series of measures to save energy and implant environmental protection awareness to its in-house guests. With support of its staff, students and guests, its achievement of environmental protection is highly recognized and it received its first Green Hotel Award in 2007. Its monthly average of electricity consumption of 2010 dropped by 7.5% compared to that of 2009, while the water consumption also reduced significantly. After the installation of heat recovery system, the consumption of petroleum gas decreased by 6,000 kilogrammes in 2010, which meant a drop of 20 tons of carbon emission, also equaled to the total amount of carbon absorption of 1,400 trees in a year. Last year, its investment for purchase of environmental products for different areas doubled in comparison of that of 2007.
The quality service as well as other uniqueness makes Pousada de Mong-Ha a recommended hotel in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macao for three consecutive years. It is also honoured as Top 25 Hotels in Hong Kong/Macao/Chinese Taiwan in the 2011 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. Ranked as the 16th on the list, it is also the number one among the three awarded Macao hotels.
IFT has been taken various measures to achieve the aims at saving energy and environmental protection. The measures include:
Heat recovery system that provides hot water to guestrooms
Solar photovoltaic modules that provide lighting to our car park so as to reduce electricity consumption and CO2 emission
Use e-document to reduce paper consumption
Energy-saving lights
Segregated recycling
Use food waste composter to treat food waste.
Water-saving taps, shower heads and toilet
“Upon request” and refillable guestroom amenities
Utilization of e-channels, such as to provide e-newspaper via computers and provide environmental bag in guestrooms
Fully utilize guestroom linens to minimize the use of chemical and water resulting in less pollution
Advise users to set the temperature of air conditioners at around 25 degree
Build aerial garden to lower the temperature inside the architectures and enlarge the green area on campus
To facilitate the measures for environmental protection and update IFT’s environmental policy regularly, the Institute established the Occupational Safety & Health and Green Committee which composed of members from each campus department. IFT also joined an energy management programme organized by Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau and Office for the Development of Energy Sector in order to further promote energy saving on campus and strengthen energy management. IFT delegates its representatives to attend the workshop to be held by the organisers from July onwards to absorb more related information.
After a long time of promotion and education, IFT staff and students are aware of the importance of environmental protection. To build Macao a livable city and maintain the sustainable development of the city, IFT will devote itself to work with everyone in Macao.
